Bed and Breakfast in Dorset
Alistair Sawday Special Places to Stay No: 148
Crosskeys House is a Listed Grade II historic building set in the tranquil village of Broadwindsor, just two and a half miles from Beaminster, in the exquisitely beautiful west Dorset. This interesting house, which stands on a site once occupied by a pub, a cobbler's shop and a blacksmith, has been extensively refurbished to provide an exceptionally high standard of comfort. The whole building is fully centrally heated and we have been given a 5 Star Award status issued by Visit Britain.

There are three beautifully furnished letting bedrooms. Two can be made up with either king-size double beds or twin beds and both have delightful en-suite bathrooms featuring very large fluffy towels and carefully selected toiletries. One smaller room has a five foot double bed and a large private bathroom very close by, also with very large fluffy towels and carefully selected toiletries. All have 'Freeview' TVs, clock/radios, hairdryers, fridges, fans and a selection of books and magazines. Irons and ironing boards, mending kits and clothes drying facilities are all readily available. Free 'WIFI' access to the internet is offered. Breakfasts are served in the family dining room or, for those who prefer to eat on their own, we have created a private breakfast area in the conservatory. There is an interesting and extensive menu to choose from and every effort is made to make the meal an entertaining and happy start to the day. The attractive lounge, with lovely soft furnishings, is almost always available for guests to use. Guests are most welcome to enjoy the popular courtyard area and the garden. Car parking is provided in our parking area and locked, under cover, parking can be provided for bicycles.

Crosskeys House is an entirely non-smoking establishment and we do not cater for pets, although genuine guide dogs are welcome. Children over the age of 12 are very warmly welcome.

The White Lion pub, a mere 200 paces away in the centre of the village, serves good pub food and a range of beverages, including real ale. Nearby Beaminster (Thomas Hardy's "Emminster") features several good restaurants including an Indian one. Cast the net a little further to Bridport and West Bay and the eating opportunities are endless.

Crosskeys House is an outstanding base from which to explore west Dorset and the surrounding area. It is close to important historic buildings and sites, fascinating towns and villages with a huge variety of shops as well as the world famous Jurassic Coast. For the energetic, golf, cycling, horse riding, sailing, swimming, fossil hunting with Chris Pamplin, ballooning and even walking with llamas are all usually available. We will be delighted to investigate any other special interest you may have.

Above all else, this is very beautiful unspoilt countryside, where wonderful walking can be enjoyed and whether you are on holiday or business, it is a tranquil, almost timeless place, to unwind and re-charge. We will try hard to make your visit an enjoyable and happy time. We offer the charm of old buildings coupled with really warm English hospitality and service.

The proprietors of Crosskeys House are Robin and Liz Adeney.
